Remembrance Day Celebration 2019
 
The St. Catherine Municipal Corporation Joint Civic Affairs Committee, in collaboration with the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (St. Catherine) observed Remembrance Day in honour of the soldiers who fought in World Wars 1 & 2 on Sunday, November 10, 2019.

A Religious Service was held at the Cenotaph, Cathedral Close, Spanish Town which commenced at 10:50a.m. The Service was conducted by Canon Collin Reid of the St. James Cathedral and Miss Allison Hurge, facilitator at the Social Development Commission gave a short address.

Miss Khamara Wright, Miss Jamaica Festival Queen 2019, read a section of Mr. Laurence Binyon’s poem “for the fallen” which states that “they shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old: ages shall not weary them, nor the passing years condemn. In the morning, we shall remember them and at the going down of the sun, we will remember them”.

Approximately nine (9) wreaths were laid at the foot of the monument. Councillor Patricia Harris represented His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Norman Scott who was unavoidably absent.

There were four (4) ex-servicemen in attendance at the function as no Veterans are alive in the parish of St. Catherine. They all received care packages from Reverend Sophia Ellias Azan, former Custos Rutolorum of St. Catherine.
