Roles & Functions of the St. Catherine Municipal Corpoation

St. Catherine Municipal Corporation may:

  • Make regulations as the need arises;
  • Determine the way and manner of the keeping of swine, goats or sheep, dog, horse, cattle or poultry, within their parish;
  • Determine how animals are transported within public places;
  • Determine the opening and closing of any thoroughfare or public places permanently or temporarily;
  • Determine the opening of portions of any thoroughfare or public place; not including the main road;
  • Stop the replacement or removal of barriers in any thoroughfare or public placement;
  • Stop or regulate meetings in any thoroughfare or public place;
  • Stop loitering in public place;
  • Regulate the opening of new of any thoroughfare or public places;
  • Determine where, if any, automobiles are parked;
  • Determine the number of taxis within a parish;
  • Determine the number of passengers in a taxis and the fare to be charged;
  • Grant licences for public amusement;
  • Establish quiet zones;
  • Determine the management of sewage on property, in town;
  • Regulate and manage parks and parochial buildings;
  • Regulate and manage the sale of meat for public consumption;
  • Have the right name streets and place numbers on it;
  • Regulate rivers, and the people and the vehicles using the rivers;
  • Regulate the removal of houses over any thoroughfare or places.
