The Spanish Town Mayor’s Award Ceremony
His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Norman Scott, Mayor of Spanish Town and Chairman of the St. Catherine Parish Council hosted an Award Ceremony and Dinner at the Spanish Court Hotel, 1 St. Lucia Avenue, Kingston, on Friday December 05, 2014.
“Since being elected Mayor in 2012, I have been tremendously blessed to have the overwhelming support of our corporate sponsors as well as members of staff at the St. Catherine Parish Council”….said the Mayor in his welcome and opening remarks
The Ceremony was held out of the Mayor’s desire to not only express gratitude and appreciation to the business community who have supported him over the past two years and contributed to the development of Spanish Town but also to members of staff of the St. Catherine Parish Council who have contributed to the parish’s growth and development for over twenty years.
There were over twelve awardees from the business community which included Carreras Limited, Columbus Communications (FLOW) and St. Jago Farm Supplies. Twenty four members of staff from the St. Catherine Parish Council, including two Councillors, Councillors Enos Lawrence and Ralston Wilson also received awards.
Councillor Lawrence has served the Dela Vega Division, Spanish Town for twenty four years and Councillor Wilson has served Brown’s Hall, Old Harbour North and Ginger Ridge Divisions a total of thirty five years.
The longest serving member of staff Mr. Nigel Ellis has served the St. Catherine Infirmary for forty two years.
Mr. Michael Morris JP., Secretary/Manager replied on behalf of the Awardees.
Among the specially invited guests were Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Honourable Noel Arscott, Acting Mayor of the Portmore Municipality, Councillor Leon Thomas, Member of Parliament Eastern St. Catherine Ms Denise Daley JP, and Bishop Rohan Edwards JP., of the Lighthouse Assembly, Spanish Town.
Ms. Jennifer Edwards JP., Executive Director, National Solid Waste Management Authority and former Mayor of Spanish Town was among the invitees. Other former Mayors in attendance were Dr. Raymoth Notice and Councillor Owen Palmer.
