Chairman of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation and Mayor of Spanish Town, Councillor Norman Scott, on Thursday, November 10, suspended the standing orders of matters to be discussed at the sitting of the Monthly General Meeting, to facilitate awarding certificates, plaques and trophies to seventeen (17) male and female students from Poor Relief Districts across the parish for outstanding academic achievement in the 2016 GSAT and CSEC Examinations.

Awarding certificates for academic achievement to students who have excelled is one of the most effective ways of motivating them and so it was very fitting to do this, to show how very proud we all are, said Angella Wright, Inspector of Poor who spearhead the event, which of course the supported by CEO Mr. Michael Morris and Mayor Scott.

There to witness the occasion with Councillors, staff members, representatives from several agencies and parents, were officers from the Board of Supervision, a statutory body operating under the portfolio of the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development. The team was lead by Corporate Secretary, Mr. Barrington Parsons.

Nine (9) students were successful in attaining between 6 to 9 CSEC subjects and are currently at 6th forms at well-known high schools and community colleges. Tajera Barker walked away with a trophy, being the top CSEC achiever, having passed 9 subjects presently in lower 6th form at the Holy Childhood High School.

Eight (8) successfully passed GSAT exams and have been attending the following high schools: Fern Court High, Dinthill High, Guys Hill High, Bog Walk High, St. Catherine High, Spanish Town High, Eltham High and Cumberland High.

On behalf of the CEO, Chairman, members of staff and Councillors of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation, hearty congratulations are expressed to the students for this wonderful academic achievement.
