THE STRATHMORE GARDEN’S CHILDREN’S HOME PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
When the St. Catherine Agencies Network (SCAN) hosted its first 5K Run/Walk on Emancipation Day, Friday, August 01, 2014, the primary objective was for the proceeds to go towards providing specific support for the procurement of bedding, play equipment and beautification work at the Strathmore Garden’s Children’s Home, Spanish Town.
The Social Development Commission could not have chosen a more fitting day for the project implementation, in that Thursday, November 20, 2014 marks the 25th anniversary of International Children’s Day.
The St. Catherine Parish Council is a key supporter of the project. In the message from His Worship the Mayor of Spanish Town and Chairman of the St. Catherine Parish Council, (read by Councillor Patricia Harris) he said…”Let’s go on building the bonds of friendship and goodness through cooperation and mutual respect so that the lives of these children will be seen more of a blessing than a curse. They too are a part of the future of this parish and by extension…our country”.
The event was well supported. In attendance were representatives of Guardian Life who donated proceeds from their recent 5K to the Kiwanis Club of St. Catherine (together they installed a swing and play area) National Youth Service, the Golden Acres CDC, Forestry Department and the Registrar General’s Department to name a few.
The St. Catherine Agencies Network (SCAN) is a coalition of Government Agencies and service providers within St. Catherine which came about to do a number of things including presenting a forum for collaboration among agencies and service providers, whereby information and resources are shared will ultimately aid effective service delivery by individual organizations and improvement in the quality of life within the parish.
