ST. CATHERINE’S LEG OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY MONTH CROSS ISLAND RUN A SUCCESS

The month of November is each year recognised as Local Government & Community Month.  As customary, a series of activities have been planned to increase awareness and highlight the work of the Local Government Ministry and its agencies.

In its bid to engage communities within the parish about Local Government and Community month 2017, the Ministry has this year formulated a strategy - a Cross Island Run and Drive activity.  This means that five messages including the Governor General’s, the Prime Minister’s and the Minister of Local Government’s will be taken across the island to all Mayors. The run will end in Morant Bay, St. Thomas at the National Church Service on October 29.

The St. Catherine’s leg saw the messages being received by His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Norman Scott on Friday, October 13, 2017, in the park at Emancipation Square, Spanish Town, in front of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation’s offices.  They were delivered to Mayor Scott at approximately 2:00 pm by runners from the surrounding communities and after a brief message they were passed on to another set of runners en route to Clarendon where it will make its next stop on Heroes Day.  Each runner received a medal for participating.

Among the partners present were representatives from Social Development Commission, St. Catherine Municipal Corporation and the media.
