PARISH CHURCH SERVICE KICKED OFF NATIONAL HERITAGE WEEK
 
Several representatives consisting of agencies, service groups and volunteers came together for worship on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at the St. Catherine Parish Council/JCDC hosted parish church service in commemoration of National Heritage Week.
 
The ecumenical service which was held under the theme "our heritage...our legacy...our strength" was held at The Worship Centre, 61 Old Harbour Road, St. Catherine.
 
We were pleased to have had the distinguished presence of the first citizen of the parish, Custos, Rev. The Hon. Jeffery Mckenzie who brought greetings on behalf of the Governor General, and  Chairman of the St. Catherine Parish Council and Mayor of Spanish Town, Councillor Norman Scott who brought greetings on behalf of the management and staff of the Council.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               
Host Pastor Rev. Roy Johnson in his discourse said" our history teaches us to do an assessment of the past and get a better understanding of the present. This  enables us to lay a foundation for the future. It helps us to  understand our heritage and appreciate  who we are and the legacy that we have inherited. And it challenges us to make our country richer so that we leave behind a legacy for those who are behind us."
 
The Management of the St. Catherine Parish Council on behalf of the JCDC and the St. Catherine Joint Civic Affairs  Committee conveys sincere thanks to Rev. Roy Johnson and The Worship Centre family for having hosted the National Heritage Week Parish Church Service and made us all felt welcome.
 
Heritage Week Celebrations continue with a Floral Tribute to the Ancestors,  to be held at the Phillipo Baptist Church, 9 William Street Spanish Town, Wednesday,  October 12, 2016 at 9:00 a.m.  Guest Speaker will be Mr. Errol Green, Secretary/Manager, St. Thomas Parish Council.
 
Monday, October 17, National Heroes Day, Emancipation Square, Spanish Town is the place to be for the Civic and Awards Ceremony and Parade at 8:30 a.m.
 
Both events promise to be historic and memorable.
