Fifteen (15) Recognized At Heroes Day Civic Ceremony And Awards Function
Approximately 15 persons were yesterday recognized for their various contributions to the development of the Jamaican society at the St Catherine Parish Council/JCDC Heroes Day Civic Ceremony and Awards Function at Emancipation Square Spanish Town.
Among them was Isaiah Laing, who was recognized for his contribution to uniformed group/culture and education, Nigel Powell, Culture (music) and Rev. Sandra Nembhard, Community Development.
Scores of family members, friends and well-wishers, much more than the ordinary, turned out to support, much to the delight of Chairman of the St. Catherine Parish Council and mayor of Spanish Town, Councillor Norman Scott.
The mayor said the turnout was overwhelming, one he had not seen in years, and he was pleased to see that the people are beginning to understand the true meaning of civic pride. He said in spite of the challenges we face as a people, we can be encouraged that there are Jamaicans right here in St. Catherine who are committed to being change agents. He said he thank them for the many hours that they have given to transforming lives and inspiring hope. "You may never be able to measure the true impact of your efforts but be encouraged that Jamaica is a better place because of your invaluable contribution", mayor Scott said.
