Twelve Awarded at St. Catherine Parish Heroes Day Civic and Awards Ceremony
A total of twelve persons walked proudly across the lawns of the park at Emancipation Square, Spanish Town, to receive awards for their significant contribution to service and life in the parish of St. Catherine, at the St. Catherine Parish Council JCDC hosted Heroes Day Civic and Awards Ceremony on National Heroes Day, Monday, October 19, 2015.
Persons were awarded in the categories: Education, Community Development, Uniformed Groups, Youth and Sports, Heroism and Gallantry.
Mrs. Daphne Clayton, JP, received in the category, Community Development because she saw the need to give back to her community through her involvement in several voluntary and social organizations, namely: the Jaycees of Jamaica, where she taught voluntarily and did motivational exercises with students, The Jamaica Red Cross, Jamaica Civil Service Association, The Optimist Club, Parish Development Committee among others.
She at one stage rescued an abandoned baby girl 1976, who was living in a suitcase whom she subsequently legally adopted and raised. The baby grew up and later became a teacher by profession.
Other Awardees were: Mrs. Beverly Brown, Education, Mr. Michael Ulett Community Development, Mr. Sylvester Tulloch, Community Development, Mr. Blondell Thomas, Uniformed Group, Ms. Evlera Gayle, Youth and Sports, Mr. Cyril Campbell, Heroism and Gallantry, Mr. Audley Nain, Community Development, Sylvester Tulloch, Community Development, Junior McDonald, Community Development, Annika Stewart, Community Development and Mr. Everton Dwyer, Gallantry.
The function ended on a joyous note with three cheers from Mayor Norman Scott following which was the Uniformed Group march past and parade.
