Enthralling St. Catherine Parish Heritage Month Church Service
Representatives from the St. Catherine Joint Civic Affairs Committee came out in numbers on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the St. Catherine Parish Council, JCDC hosted ecumenical parish church service to mark the commencement of Heritage Month 2015; celebrated under the theme, “Jamaican Heritage, Impacting the World”.
The service was held at the Spanish Town Seventh Day Adventist Church, 7 Brunswick Avenue, under the patronage of His Worship the Mayor of Spanish Town, and Chairman of the St. Catherine Parish Council, Councillor Norman Scott and Custos of St. Catherine, Reverend The Honorable Jeffery McKenzie, CD, JP.
In attendance were Councillors, staff members from the Parish Council, Miss St. Catherine Festival Queen, representatives from Uniformed Groups, including, The Fire Department, Police, The Salvation Army, Lions and Kiwanis Clubs, Scouts Association, Correctional Services, Gentle Care Ambulance, Jamaica Teachers Association and JCDC to name a few.
Greetings were conveyed from Custos McKenzie and Mayor Norman Scott.
Councillor Pat Harris conveyed the greeting on behalf of Mayor Scott who was unavoidably absent. In his greeting, the Mayor noted that, “This is indeed a time of reflection and introspection to see to what extent we have sought to preserve and enrich what was bestowed on us. It is my desire that we will be inspired and challenged to continue to build on our rich heritage so that the future generations can inherit a Jamaica that they will be equally proud of”.
Senior Pastor Everett Smith in his rather sound and stimulating discourse reminded the congregation that “it is God who has always been with our heroes, it is He who has lead and guided them to have been the type of leaders they were; but importantly, of all the heroes, Jesus is our greatest hero”.
The vote of thanks was conveyed by Mr. Gosmo Budhoo, Chairman of the Joint Civic Affairs Committee who was equally satisfied with the day’s proceedings. He said he felt truly pleased that the decision was taken by the Committee to have had the service at the Spanish Town Seventh Day Adventist Church where the reception was warm and hospitable. He ended by wishing everyone a peaceful and happy Sabbath.
