Jamaica Customs visits the Old Capital
The Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) graced Spanish Town with its presence on Thursday, August 17 for the second in three community-based engagements, “Customs Meets the Community, under the theme, 'Reaching Our Customers Where They Are'. The initiative was launched in January of this year in collaboration with the Social Development Commission (SDC). The session was held on the SDC premises, 1 Port Henderson Road, Spanish Town.
The first engagement was held in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth and the third will be held in Portland.
According to the JCA, the sessions are geared towards increasing awareness, connecting with customers, stakeholders far and wide at the community level and will provide information on customs policies and procedures, clearance, travel, and trade. The objective is to target the business people, political representatives, churches, schools, charity groups, returning residents, just about any and everyone in civil society, even the ‘man on the street’; and the feedback from these target groups is of paramount importance.
Among the invited guests present were Reverend the Honourable Jeffery McKenzie, Custos of St. Catherine, Ms. Denise Daley, Member of Parliament, St. Catherine Eastern, Mr. George Moodie, Councillor, (Ensom City Division) representing the Honourable Olivia Grange, Member of Parliament, St. Catherine Central and Mr. Claude Hamilton, Councillor, Portmore Pines Division, representing Mayor of Spanish Town and Chairman of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation, Councillor Norman Scott. Pastor R.J Edwards of Lighthouse Assembly, Garbally Drive did the opening prayer and Bishop Junior Headlam, President of the Spanish Town Ministers’ Fraternal the closing prayer.
The St. Catherine Municipal Corporation takes pleasure in welcoming the Jamaica Customs Agency community-based initiative to the parish of St. Catherine.
