ST. CATHERINE TRIUMPHED IN SPIRIT OF INDEPENDENCE BEST DECORATED TOWN SQUARE COMPETITION
The St. Catherine Parish Council for the second consecutive year walked away with the 2016 Spirit of Independence Award for “Best decorated Town Square” in that category, at an award presentation hosted by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at The Devonshire, Devon House, Kingston. Mr. Michael Morris, Secretary/Manager of the St. Catherine Parish Council collected the award.
Other categories were “Best decorated Business/Office” and “Best Window Dressing Decorations”.
Mayberry Investments Limited won the award for Best Decorated Private Sector Business/Office, while Forestry Department walked away with the award for Best Decorated Public Sector Business/Office.
Among the participants present were Jamaica Information Service, Administrator Generals Department, Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, Fontana Pharmacy, Jamaica Customs Agency, Urban Development Corporation, RADA – St. Thomas Office and the National Water Commission.
Various media houses were also judged on their involvement in the promotion of the Emancipation and Independence celebrations. The Press Media Award was won by The Jamaica Observer. For Television, the award went to CVM TV and Radio, RJR 94 FM.
The management of the St. Catherine Parish Council wishes to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the hard working team for a job well done and for their efforts and enthusiasm in realizing the true spirit of Independence at that time of the year.
