ST. CATHERINE PARISH COUNCIL CALLS EMERGENCY MEETING  RE IMPENDING HURRICANE MATTHEW

The St. Catherine Parish Disaster Management, Environment and Climate Change Committee called an Emergency Meeting today, Friday, September 30, 2016 in the Council's meeting room to have discussions on impending Hurricane Matthew.

Discussions were focused on the preparation of operational plans and review by agencies, the state of critical drains and gullies and activation of the Emergency Operations Centre.

Response Agencies declared their state of readiness and from all indications; all seem to be alert and ready to offer the necessary support.

The Disaster Coordinator reminded that the Parish Emergency Centre is the coordinating point and it is imperative for agencies that are a part of the team to have an in house representative when the centre is activated, in order to have efficient communication.  She pointed out that the Parish Council Staff have been rostered and upon activation, the Centre will run until it is time to deactivate, based on notification from the National body.

It is expected that the Emergency Operations Centre will be activated on Sunday, October 02, at approximately 2pm.   If it will have to be activated before that time, all entities will be notified accordingly.
