Come Monday, August 14, 2017, the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development will be embarking on a Youth Summer Employment Programme. Through this Programme, over two thousand three hundred (2,300) young persons will be employed over a four week period – August 14 to September 08.
Each parish Councillor is required to submit the names of ten (10) persons from respective division.
The critical tasks to be undertaken are streetlight audit, where persons will identify streetlights that are working and those that are not, through night audit. They will also identify vulnerable persons who need assistance during emergencies within communities as well as other tasks that may be assigned.
An estimated two hundred and fifty (250) persons were transported from the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation’s office yesterday, August 10, to Jamaica College for the launch of the programme where they were addressed by the Honourable Prime Minister, the Minister of Local Government and the Mayor of Spanish Town, among others.
A training seminar will be held at the New Life Worship Centre, Dela Vega City, Spanish Town, on Monday August 14, 2017. Over three hundred persons from divisions within St. Catherine and the Municipality of Portmore will meet between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., to be educated prior to going into the various communities.
