Good Bye for now Mr. Morris
After serving for over four decades in the government service, and in the capacity of Secretary/Manager of the St. Catherine Parish Council 1999 to 2007 and 2012 to 2017, Michael V. Morris went off on pre retirement leave on Friday, May 12, 2017. He was Chief Executive Officer at the time of his departure. (The post of Secretary/Manager was re-named when changes took effect under the Local Governance Act, 2016).
Several fora were created where members of staff got an opportunity to share their sentiments and experiences having worked with Mr. Morris over the years. One member of staff had this to say..."Mr. Morris has always been a kind, easy-going and supportive kind of boss. He is a good listener and always has some crucial words of advice to give… he will truly be missed.”
Other staff members described him as:
Caring, Quiet, Good, Responsible, Dedicated, Helpful, Understanding, God-Centered, Devoted, Wise
Also at May's sitting of the General Meeting, His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Norman Scott provided an opportunity for Councillors to share their sentiments. Councillors on both sides of the political divide made use of the opportunity to do so. It was echoed that based on the experiences with Mr. Morris inside and outside of Council he will truly be missed.
Here are some popular names Mr. Morris acquired during his service at the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation.
“Seckie”, “Bossie”, “Sir”, “Chief”, “Preacher”, “Prophet”…… but the name which stood out most was "No Funds” and he connected fondly with it.
The Management of the St Catherine Municipal Corporation, Chairman and Staff use this medium to wish for Michael V. Morris, JP., a successful, fruitful and healthy retirement. So Mr. Morris, we are saying see you around; but we are sure you are happy to say… “goodbye tension and hello pension”….
Walk good….God’s speed.
