Shelter Managers Training – Linstead Zone
 
The St. Catherine Municipal Corporation Disaster Preparedness Unit hosted a 3-day Shelter Managers Training for the Linstead Zone, at the Linstead Primary and Junior High School, East Avenue, Linstead, August 15 to 17, 2017.
 
Among those present were representatives from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), Chairman for the Linstead Zonal Committee, Gentle Care Ambulance, and the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation.
 
Over the period, twenty-five (25) participants were trained on the fundamentals of the shelter and the roles and functions of the shelter manager and his/her team. Persons also got a chance of getting acquainted with teams and the persons within the shelter with whom they are likely to come in contact at some stage during activation.  
 
Participants were given the basic First Aid and CPR training as well as being formally registered on the national database of volunteers by the Jamaica Volunteer Association (JAMVOL), a group within the ODPEM.
 
The St. Catherine Disaster Unit has other planned activities during this Atlantic Hurricane season which ends November 2017, and stands alert in the event of a hurricane or any other disaster likely to occur.
