The 6-month training   spearheaded by the Board of Supervision, is being conducted by representatives of the St. Catherine Health Department, nutritionists and physiotherapists from the Spanish Town Hospital, and The Jamaica Red Cross. Areas being covered in the training include: Medication terminologies, medication administration, safety in health care, bed bath, vital signs procedures, universal precautions and sterile wound care.
Participants are also being given the opportunity to improve their skills in Report Writing and Conflict Resolution.
During an interview with Christopher Ferguson and Yvonne Gordon , participants in the training, both expressed delight at being given the opportunity to participate in the training.  They were both grateful for being able to learn modern skills that will allow them to more adequately and efficiently meet the needs of patients.
In speaking with the Instructor, Nurse Stacey-Ann Waldron-Lee, she said despite having to work and attend classes, students are receptive to the training.  She also stated that she has seen improvement in their  quality of work, having had the opportunity to conduct on-the-job observation.
