Ground Breaking Ceremony – St. Catherine Indigent Housing Project

On Friday July 5, 2019, a Ground-breaking Ceremony was held in Mendes District, Point Hill for the construction of a dwelling house for 84 year old  Nora Johnson.
In his remarks His Worship the Mayor, Cllr. Norman Scott said he was glad for the opportunity to make a difference in the life of Ms. Johnson.  He said this was a symbol of the Municipality’s commitment to putting people first.  He pledged that within three (3) weeks the team would be returning to cut the ribbon for a brand new house which would be fitted with the necessary amenities for Ms. Johnson to live comfortably.
Cllr. Wesley Suckoo of the Point Hill Division also expressed his pleasure to be assisting Ms. Johnson and thanked the Local Government Ministry and the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation for making the ground-breaking ceremony possible.
Ms. Johnson was also presented with care packages courtesy of The St. Catherine Municipal Corporation.
In her response, a delighted Ms. Johnson said she was grateful for the gesture, as this new home would prevent her from getting wet whenever it rains.
The second housing unit will be erected in Crescent District, in the Angels Division, where 75 year old Michael Crossgill will be the recipient.
The Programme is funded through the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development from the Equalization Fund.
