MINISTER OF HEALTH DROPPED IN ON ST. CATHERINE MUNICIPAL CORPORATION’S GENERAL MEETING
Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton put in an appearance at the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation’s Monthly General Meeting held Thursday, May 11, 2017.
According to the Chairman and Mayor of Spanish Town, Councillor Norman Scott, Dr. Tufton came at a time timely moment, when the issues under the Local Board of Health were under discussion and he gladly welcomed him.
Minister Tufton said, having seen a recent newscast of a tour of the Spanish Town Hospital, team led by Mayor Scott some weeks ago, and having heard of the Corporation’s interest in having him, he saw the need to attend to address the concerns.
Among those were plans for the operating theatre, the triage area for emergencies and the upgrade of the hospital from a type B to a type A facility.
He said he was hoping that by the end of this calendar year, there should be a substantial project plan of developmental works for the hospital.
The Minister said he was also prepared to mutually work with the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation to get some of the social cases at the hospital dealt with at the Infirmary level. For this reason, he hopes to sustain the relationship with the hospital and the St. Catherine Infirmary.
Mayor Scott was quick in seizing the opportunity to seek the Minister’s assistance for funds to aid in the construction of the chapel at the Infirmary premises. He said this corporation could come up with the first $2 Million dollars towards this longstanding project.
The Minister committed to contributing $4 Million dollars towards the chapel.
