St. Catherine Municipal Corporation’s Orientation of Councillors

St. Catherine Municipal Corporation’s Orientation of Councillors

“Our goal here at this Corporation is to make the parish of St. Catherine better than it has ever been as it relates to how we conduct business, and so we should aim to take decisions that the citizens will be proud of” said Chairman of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation and Mayor of Spanish Town Councillor Norman Scott.  He was speaking at the Orientation of Councillors session held in the Meeting Room, Emancipation Square, Spanish Town on Tuesday, January 10.

He implored Councillors to take the right steps going forward by showing the kind of respect, support and tolerance warranted to each other and by extension the very dedicated team of staff members with whom they will be working for the next few years to ensure that goals are met.

Chief Executive Officer of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation Mr. Michael Morris chaired the session which lasted for roughly six hours.

The general idea of the orientation was for Councillors to get an overview of the structure and functions of the Corporation and its Committees. In addition to that presentations were also made by Department and Unit Heads.

Forty One (41) Councillor's were sworn in from divisions across the parish and the Municipality of Portmore on Thursday, December 08, 2016 at an official ceremony held at Emancipation Square, Spanish Town.
